Saying Goodbye to SimplyTweet

SimplyTweet is my first iOS app. The first version was horribly done and the app has been improved tremendously between 41 updates across 4 years (that’s an average of 0.8 updates/month). Even then I have learnt a lot that haven’t made it into the app. It was always my hope to give it a total revamp with brand new UI and guts. As an indie developer, unfortunately I had never been able to allocate enough time to do that.

The app has been fading over the last 1 year, and the last straw of course is when Twitter announced the 100k user token limit. Communicating with Twitter has been laborious. I hate for the app to remain incomplete and not well-maintained (I actually have some bug fixes coded up and ready). But I’d rather much focus my time on working on apps so they are polished and relies much less on a third party for its survival).

SimplyTweet holds a special place in my heart and it was a fun and at times, tiring ride. But it’s time to let it go.

Today, I am announcing that I have removed both the paid and free versions of SimplyTweet from the iOS App Store. For the foreseeable future, I will not be producing updates or revamps to it. The app will however continue to be supported via email and push notifications should continue to run for a bit.

Many thanks to those of you for your encouragement and feedback on the product over the years, and I hope I can count on your continued support as I build more wonderful apps and services.
